“Here, it always starts with the client: what they want, then marrying that with what makes the most sense for the site and budget.”
Deanna Coates is a young intern architect with an outsize passion for custom residential design. “The opportunity to get to know the end user of the project, to have an impact on someone’s day-to-day life—it’s very intentional,” she says.
She was raised in the pastoral beauty of Puslinch township, studied in the maritime city of Halifax, then chose the architecture program at Ottawa’s Carleton University because of its focus on design, concept, and theory. Her early professional experience included work on residential low- and mid-rise buildings. Her work at Solares marries her draw to ecology, her need for connection with landscape, and her passion for highly personalized conceptual design.
